US Route 50 is a transcontinental highway stretching from West Sacramento, California, to Ocean City, Maryland.
This page deals with the section of US 50 from East of Reno, Nevada, to Ely, Nevada, in what is known as the Basin and Range province of the Great Basin.
This section is known as "The Loneliest Highway in America."
When we first traveled to the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, in 1999, this was the route we took for several years.
I never used to like the "barren" desert, but travelling this highway gave me a whole new respect for its natural beauty.
